The Difference Between Sympathetic and Parasympathetic State

Hi, Erin, here. So today I wanted to give you some examples on the difference between the sympathetic and parasympathetic state and hopefully provide you with a scenario that you could relate to. And I'll compare this to driving.

So first off, the sympathetic state is the fight flight freeze, and that's important in life for survival. And the parasympathetic state, which I remember by thinking of a parachute, it helps you come down for a nice soft landing in life. And that's where repair and restoration takes place. So I'm going to give you an example where both of them are very important and how quickly you should ebb and flow between the two. So let's say that you're driving and the cars in front of you all stop.

You want that sympathetic state to engage without thought, just as a reflex so that you can hit the brakes. You don't crash into the cars in front of you.

You don't want to go, "ooh, cars are slowing down. Let me hit the brakes". By that time it's a little bit too late.

OK, so it helped you to survive.

You stopped your car, but now you should come out of that sympathetic state.

You should put your foot onto the gas so that you can ebb and flow with traffic or ebb and flow in life. Now, if you don't and you get stuck the cars behind you all start hitting their horns. You realize you need to hit the gas and you're not doing it. So now your anxiety starts to build. People are getting frustrated around you.

Then what happens is they start to go around you. So life is passing you by.

As things clear out in front of you, you can see exactly where you want to go in life and you can't get there. You can't achieve or accomplish those things. So now, after the anxiety has been there, depression can start to sit and you start to feel hopeless, discouraged, frustrated, helpless. How should you feel? So you can understand how both of those things start to take place. When your nervous system gets stuck and you can't pull yourself out of that sympathetic state, Neurolease can help that happen so that you can naturally go back to what your body's supposed to do.

Another example would be, let's say in rush hour traffic. You have your foot on the gas full throttle. You can see exactly what you're going to hit before you hit it. You know you're going to destroy it and you can't stop yourself. You're screaming and yelling at yourself, going, "I know this isn't helpful. I know this is destructive. I know I'm going to hurt the important people in my life. I know I'm going to mess up that job opportunity, but I can't get myself to stop."

It's just like having your foot on the gas full throttle. So the first example was your sympathetic state in the freeze, your foot is frozen on the brake. Then you have the fight. Or maybe the flight could be with your foot on the gas going full throttle. Those are different examples of that sympathetic state.

So when you are being triggered in your life or stuck in that sympathetic state, you're sabotaging job success. You're ruining your relationships. You know it's coming. And then you start to get really hard on yourself and it affects your sense of self-worth and your self-esteem. So if these are things that you're struggling with, give us a call. These are some things we can help you out with through the Neurolease treatments.

Have a great day.
